Ok, so this may not be 100% honest, but when I was finally testing out some old gear that 's been sitting around for awhile, I was able to half-simulate some sort of weird early cable/pay TV hybrid hack (nonsense technical term). Take a look.
Oh dear, I can't seem to watch my Pay TV.
Success!
So, what's tonight's feature?
Barbarella? Not my favorite movie, but hey, it's free (in some weird, retroactive way)!
How it was really done:
1. Hook up your Betamax to a (preferably late 70's-vintage) Cable TV box.
2. Hook up your Cable Box to the TV.
3. Insert your only ONTV recording into the Betamax.
4. Press play.
5. Turn on the TV and Cable Box. For "scrambled" mode, select channel 2 on the Cable Box. For "descrambled" mode, select channel 3 (again, on the Cable box).
